What is Explorer?

Explorer shows how your property is performing, using the bookings in your property management system (PMS). It turns those bookings into charts and tables, so you can see what has sold, where it came from, and how that compares with another period.

Explorer updates as soon as your PMS tells Beacon that a booking has been created, edited, cancelled or changed in any way, so the figures you see are close to real time.

The Explorer Overview page, with twelve summary cards and the Rooms and revenue by date chart compared with the same period last year.

The Explorer pages

Explorer has nine pages. Each one looks at your bookings from a different angle.

  • Overview: a summary of rooms sold, revenue, occupancy, and average rate for your chosen dates.

  • Sources: where your bookings come from, and the rooms, revenue, and commission from each source.

  • Segments: which guest types are booking, and the rooms and revenue from each.

  • Avg. LoS: the average number of nights guests stay. LoS is short for length of stay.

  • Lead time: how far in advance guests book.

  • On-the-day: rooms and revenue from bookings made on the day the guest arrives.

  • CXL Income: the money you kept from cancellations, such as cancellation fees and non-refundable charges. CXL is short for cancellation.

  • CXL Loss: the money you lost from cancellations that you couldn't charge for.

  • Budget: how the year is tracking against the budget you've uploaded.

What every page has in common

The filters at the top of each page set the dates you're looking at and the period you want to compare them with. See Using the Explorer search filters.

Each page is made up of reports. A report is a chart with a table underneath that you can show, hide, and export. See Reading Explorer reports.

AI Insights reads the figures on the page and picks out what is going well, what has changed, and what may need attention. See Reading AI Insights.

The Daily briefing

If your property uses both Explorer and Rate Radar, the first page you see in Beacon is the Daily briefing. It shows today, yesterday, and the month so far on one page. See Understanding the Daily briefing.
