Grouping your segments

A segment group lets several of the segments from your property management system (PMS) report as one line in Explorer. Use groups to turn a long list of PMS segments into the handful of guest types you think about day to day.

For example, you could group all of your corporate rate segments under one group called Corporate.

The Segment groups settings page, with Download template, Upload, Add group, and the list of groups.

Finding the setting

Click your initials at the top right of the page and click Property. Click the Explorer tab, then click Segments. You can also click Manage on any segment report in Explorer.

Creating your groups

Type a name in the New group name box and click Add group. Repeat this for each group you want.

To rename a group, click Rename, type the new name, and click Save. To delete a group, click Remove.

Putting segments into groups

Segments are assigned to groups with a CSV file, which you can edit in any spreadsheet app.

  1. Click Download template. The file lists every segment from your PMS and the group it is in now, so you only need to change the rows you want.

  2. In the Reports as column, type a group name next to each segment you want grouped. Type the name exactly as you created it.

  3. Leave Reports as blank for any segment you want to report under its own name.

  4. Save the file as a CSV.

  5. Click Upload, choose the file, and click Upload again.

Beacon checks the file and applies it straight away. If there's a problem with the file, Beacon tells you what it is so you can correct the file and upload it again.

Checking the result

The table shows how many segments are in each group under Segments mapped. The line under the table tells you how many of your segments are grouped in total.

In Explorer, each group appears as one row with its PMS segments listed beneath it. See Using the Segments view.
