Explorer
Real-time hotel analytics, with intelligent AI Insights.
- What is Explorer?Explorer shows how your property is performing, using the bookings in your property management system (PMS). It turns those bookings into charts and tables, so you can see what has sold, where it came from, and how that compares with another period.
- Using the Explorer search filtersThe search filters sit at the top of every Explorer page (except Budget). They set which dates you're looking at, what you're comparing them with, and how revenue is shown.
- Reading Explorer reportsEvery Explorer page is built from the same parts, which are summary cards at the top and a set of reports underneath. This guide explains how to read them, so you only need to learn it once.
- Understanding the Daily briefingThe Daily briefing is the first page you see when you open Beacon. It shows how your property and your competitors are doing, from yesterday through to the end of the month, on one page.
- Understanding the Explorer OverviewThe Overview is a summary of rooms sold, revenue, occupancy, and average rate for your chosen dates. It's the best place to start, because every other Explorer page looks more closely at one of the figures shown here.
- Using the Sources viewThe Sources page shows where your bookings come from, and the rooms, revenue, and commission from each source. It's the right place to see how much of your business is direct, how much comes through third parties, and what you pay in commission.
- Using the Segments viewThe Segments page shows which guest types are booking, and the rooms and revenue from each. It's the right place to see how your mix of business is changing.
- Using the Avg. LoS viewThe Avg. LoS page shows the average number of nights guests stay, split by date, room type, and segment. LoS is short for length of stay.
- Using the Lead time viewThe Lead time page shows how far in advance guests book, split by date, room type, and segment. Lead time is the number of days between a booking being made and the guest arriving.
- Using the On-the-day viewThe On-the-day page shows the rooms and revenue from bookings made on the day the guest arrives. It counts every booking made on the day of arrival, whatever the source, including walk-ins.
- Using the CXL Income viewThe CXL Income page shows the money you kept from cancellations, including cancellation fees and non-refundable charges. CXL is short for cancellation.
- Using the CXL Loss viewThe CXL Loss page shows the money you lost from cancellations that you couldn't charge for. CXL is short for cancellation.
- Tracking performance against budgetThe Budget page shows how the year is tracking against the budget you've uploaded. Months that haven't finished show what's on the books so far.
- Checking a single date with the daily overviewThe daily overview shows everything about one date in a single window. Open it from any date in Explorer when you want to know what happened on that day.
- Reading AI InsightsAI Insights reads the figures on the page you're looking at and picks out what stands out. It's a quick way to find where to look first.
- Marking your direct sourcesExplorer splits your sources into direct and third-party. Beacon treats every source as third-party until you tell it otherwise, so marking your direct sources is one of the first things to set up.
- Customising commissionBeacon reads the commission for each source from your property management system (PMS). Two settings let you correct it where your PMS doesn't hold the full picture.
- Grouping your segmentsA segment group lets several of the segments from your property management system (PMS) report as one line in Explorer. Use groups to turn a long list of PMS segments into the handful of guest types you think about day to day.
- Uploading your budgetUpload a budget so Explorer can show how each month is tracking against it. You upload one file for each year.
